How do I start my own social network?

After signing up and logging in to mixxt, you can instantly create your own network. Think of a cool title and go for it! in the right sidebar we've set up the box to “create your network” . Just enter your favourite name and domain, check if it's still available and click “save”.

One important thing first: You can change, edit or delete all settings – except for the domain and privacy settings – after creating the network as often as you like. So if you aren't quite sure about one setting, just keep the default and change it later.

In the next step you can tell your members something about your network by choosing a subtitle, your preferred language, category and some tags as well as an informative description about the network's purpose. What is your network about? Who is it for? The better your description and tags are, the more members you will have and the better you will be found on the internet.

After that please choose your desired features by just dragging them from the left and dropping them into the content area or sidebar. Your feature choices will be available in your social network and the start page will be sorted in the way you do so here. Don't worry about their order, you can change everything later on. Just play around and check which features suit best for your new community. You can then choose your design and style, configure the networks privacy, invite friends and colleagues to join and set the profile questions for your new members.

How do I become a member of a mixxt network?

On the main page of a network, you find the text “Hello user XY, you are not a member of this network (yet?).” By clicking the button “become a member” you reach the network access dialogue. There are three different options of becoming a member:

  1. You are invited by the network founder.
  2. You register for a network but must wait for the founder to confirm your membership.
  3. You register for a network and can instantly get interactive.

Depending on the network founder's requirements, you have to answer some profile questions or state your intention for joining the network. Now you can start discovering the platform, connect and share information with other members.

Which networks am I a member of?

In the green mixxt bar at the top of every page you'll find the mixxt settings. If you then choose the network settings, you'll find an overview of all your networks and can navigate to the respective network straight away.

How can I start a private network with mixxt?

Being administrator of a network, you can configure it as “private” and only accessible via the direct internet address. By clicking the admin tab you reach the privacy settings of your network, where you can configure the network's and its members' visibility. Among others, you can specify who may join the network. Creating a private network, you decide between “everybody I approve of” and “only invited people”. Thus you easily maintain an overview and control on the circle of your members. For private networks you may consider which network pages should be visible for non-members. When dealing with confidential content, just let them see the main page or even a neutral sign-in page. In addition, you can exclude your network from being scanned and indexed by search engines. You specify these matters when setting up a network. Considering the privacy of your members, you cannot turn a “private” network into “public” yourself. Please get in touch with us (support@mixxt.net) in this case, we'll be pleased to help you with this conversion.

How can I start a public network with mixxt?

Being administrator of a network, you can configure it as “public”. By clicking the admin tab you reach the privacy settings of your network, where you can configure the network's and its members' visibility. In public networks you can let mixxt-users join by just clicking the “become a member” button. Thus you take away the inhibition from potential new users and promote a fast growth of your community. For public networks it is also relevant that non-members cannot only see the main page, but are allowed to check contents, activities and other members pages. In order to attain a higher network range, you should permit search engines to index your site, so that your network appears in Google's, Yahoo's and other services' search results. You specify these matters when setting up a network. You cannot turn a “public” network into “private” yourself. Please get in touch with us (support@mixxt.net) in this case, we'll be pleased to help you with this conversion.
